Appliqué is one step beyond traditional embroidery, where individual cut pieces of twill fabric are sewn onto a garment around the edge. Appliqué is also frequently called tackle twill and is very commonly associated with Greek sweatshirts (fraternities & sororities) as well as athletic team uniforms.
