Polo shirts are a specific style of pullover shirt and are distinguished by the front the buttoned placket and welt collar. Polo Shirt Fabric Options

Unlike t-shirts or sweatshirts, polo shirts really differentiate themselves with the fabric styles. Very basic, inexpensive polo shirts are typically made of either jersey knit fabric or pique knit fabric. These shirt can be 100% cotton or poly-cotton blend. Whereas heavy fabrics are preferred with sweatshirts, this is not the case as much with polo shirts. When a polo shirt is going to be used on the golf course or in casual use, often the better breathable fabrics are preferred. Higher end polo shirt can come in a variety of fabrics including, cotton, cotton blend, rayon, silk, silk blend, bamboo, and tencel (wood pulp fiber.)

Higher end shirts include brands like Port Authority, Sport-Tek, District Threads, Red House, Outerbanks, Devon & Jones, Cross Creek, Vantage, American Apparel and Alternative Apparel. For high-end, golf inspired polo shirts there are brands like Nike Golf, Ping and Arnold Palmer.

How are polo shirts customized?

Our polo shirts get embellished about half with embroidery and half screen printed. For our customers who are looking for value oriented polo shirts, they usually the prefer screen printing. For a more quality or high end look, embroidery is preferred. Most of the customizations are done on the left chest or right chest of the shirt. Rarely is a full back screen print done on polo shirts, whereas that’s very common with t-shirts and sweatshirts. In addition, it is very common for work uniforms or other official type of apparel to have a custom individual name or name and title sewn right on the shirt.

In schools, the polo shirt is a very common school uniform.
